Ventures
Professional initiatives · innovation · entrepreneurship · engineering
A coherent collection of long-running professional initiatives, not a project archive. Each venture applies fluid mechanics, measurement practice, and systems thinking to real operations, field validation, and enterprise scaling while remaining anchored in the engineering knowledge platform.

Initiatives ecosystem
Ventures are deliberately distinct from projects. Projects document engineering campaigns, CFD studies, wind-tunnel tests, experimental rigs. Ventures document professional initiatives that combine entrepreneurship, operational infrastructure, and long-horizon field validation over years or decades.
Ventures
Enterprise operations, grant-funded infrastructure, competitive validation, and regional impact, initiatives you co-found and scale.
Projects
Applied engineering case studies, experimental campaigns, numerical studies, and design exercises with documented methods.
Project index · e.g. WRF wind mapping
Publications
Peer-reviewed papers and formal manuscripts, the research credibility layer that underpins measurement and analysis practice.
The three layers cross-link by design. Wind-regime mapping for site selection appears as a WRF project, field telemetry informs probe uncertainty practice, and competitive hydrofoil work stress-tests aerodynamic intuition developed in the laboratory. Future ventures register in the canonical JSON registry and receive a stable anchor on this page, no new page architecture required.
Professional dimensions
Each initiative is evaluated against five dimensions that recur across engineering research, enterprise operations, and long-term portfolio building.
Innovation
Novel operating models, lagoon morphology site selection, and product design grounded in first-principles fluid mechanics.
Entrepreneurship
Incorporation, competitive grant writing, vertical integration, and SME governance across multi-year scaling arcs.
Engineering
Aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and rigorous measurement practice applied to facilities, hardware, and instructional systems.
Experimentation
Field validation across Mediterranean and Atlantic nodes, operational telemetry, and competitive foil testing at championship level.
Long-term thinking
Fixed infrastructure, regional economic diversification, and durable brand equity, not one-off campaigns or portfolio filler.
Platform connection
Every initiative links to projects, notes, tools, and publications on lucasrey.com, ventures strengthen the portfolio; they do not sit outside it.
Active initiatives
Registered professional initiatives with stable anchors for deep linking. Add a row to the venture registry and a matching section below when a new initiative ships.
- KiteGeneration Srls & Punta Trettu Kite Center: sport-tourism enterprise · 2008, present · kitegeneration.com
KiteGeneration Srls & Punta Trettu
Co-founder of KiteGeneration Srls, scaling a vertically integrated sport-tourism enterprise in Sardinia while competing internationally in hydrofoil racing, applying high-speed aerodynamics in operational and athletic contexts.

Pre-incorporation
2008 to 2010
Wind regime mapping & site feasibility
Initial mapping of the complex meteorology of southern Sardinia (Maestrale and Scirocco interactions) across coastal hubs to identify optimal instructional nodes, see the mesoscale wind modelling (WRF) project for the numerical workflow.
KiteGeneration Srls
2011 to 2016
Cagliari: market entry
Incorporated KiteGeneration Srls. Established a lean, mobile instructional model in the capital city, validating pedagogy and building international brand equity without heavy fixed-asset exposure.
Punta Trettu
2017, present
Infrastructure pivot & Piano Sulcis
Authored the business plan securing the Piano Sulcis regional development grant, funding transition to a fixed-infrastructure hub in San Giovanni Suergiu with integrated hospitality.
Operational model & morphology
The selection of Punta Trettu was an engineering decision based on lagoon morphology. Shallow bathymetry, reduced chop, and Venturi-amplified wind corridors decrease stochastic instability during early-stage learning, increasing instructional throughput per session.
By leveraging these parameters, the enterprise operates as an engine for regional economic diversification through a comprehensive kite-and-sleep hospitality model.
- Radio-integrated telemetry for real-time instructional feedback
- Curriculum certified under VDWS, IKO, and FIV standards
- Revenue hedging via diversified services (SUP, logistics, accommodation)
- Safety infrastructure (rescue boat mapping and BLSD readiness)
Competitive hydrofoil validation
Beyond enterprise management, my primary athletic discipline is hydrofoil kitesurfing: a high-speed application of fluid mechanics in a turbulent marine environment.
Participation in the 2012 Kitesurf World Championships (IKA) in Sardinia provided a real-world testing ground. Operating at racing speeds on foil sections informs lift, drag, and cavitation limits investigated in the research laboratory.
Field validation locations
Field sessions across the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean serve as an experimental testbed for fluid-dynamics mechanics, moving theoretical assumptions out of the wind tunnel into real atmospheric variance. The measurement posture is developed in experimental aerothermal measurement.
Selected nodes: Sotavento (Fuerteventura), Punta Trettu (San Giovanni Suergiu), and Poetto (Cagliari).
How ventures fit the platform
Ventures are the applied-operations pillar, professional initiatives that demonstrate execution beyond the laboratory. Supporting material lives elsewhere by design:
- Projects: engineering campaigns behind site selection and validation (e.g. WRF wind mapping)
- Publications: peer-reviewed research underpinning measurement and analysis practice
- Probe uncertainty note: instrumentation methods for field and tunnel validation
- Experimental aerothermal measurement: traceability and facility transfer narrative
- Instrumentation & measurement: pneumatic probing and calibration workflows
- Applied aerodynamics: technical subject cluster for field validation and outdoor fluid systems
- Air properties calculator: thermophysical inputs for feasibility and similarity checks
- Fluid mechanics curriculum: instructional modules informed by operational teaching
- Teaching: pedagogical methodology from competitive and operational experience
- Collaborate: venture partnerships, field validation, and technical due diligence
